Everyone Else's Story

I count the steps up the stairwell,
Stumble over the cracks.
I can't see where I'm going
But I know I can't turn back.

She lies in her bed now,
Looking at the stars.
She's stuck in her life now,
She would rather travel far.

He hides in the closet,
Hoping not to be found.
Cowering and shivering,
Screaming without a sound.

She walks the park alone,
With the shadows and the moon.
She wanders without thinking,
Not knowing what comes soon.

He holds her hand too tightly,
His fear turns red and loud.
He keeps her close even though
She wants to be let out.

And now she wakes and wonders
Just what was in her dreams.
Her life is still her own, she thinks.
But it's not what it seems.
